About
Cat Lall is the founder, artist, and designer behind Studio 49, an Austin-based art and design studio where contemporary art, collectible design, sculptural furniture, and exceptional vintage pieces come together through one unmistakable point of view: life is better in color.
For Cat, color is not an accent. It is the starting point. Saturated pinks, electric blues, unapologetic reds, brilliant greens—she gravitates toward color that has presence and isn’t afraid to command a room. Her philosophy is simple: an interior should make you feel something. Whether through a single extraordinary object or an entire space, Cat believes in the transformative power of a bold move—the unexpected piece, the fearless color, the thing that makes you stop, look twice, and smile.
Bigger than life has always felt just about right.
Rooted in an appreciation for modern aesthetics and timeless design, Cat’s creative philosophy combines experimentation with precision. Her original work explores color, transparency, scale, form, and unconventional materials, resulting in statement pieces that don’t simply occupy a space—they change its energy.
Through Studio 49, Cat creates and curates a highly personal mix of contemporary art and design, limited-edition works, sculptural furniture, and exceptional vintage and mid-century pieces. The common thread is never a particular period or style. It is personality. Cat is drawn to objects with presence, craftsmanship, wit, history, and just enough irreverence to make them unforgettable.
Her creative perspective has been shaped by years of international experience. While living in London, Cat studied at the University of the Arts London, immersing herself in a city where art, fashion, architecture, history, and fearless individuality coexist at every turn. That experience broadened her artistic vocabulary and continues to influence the way she approaches both her own work and the pieces she chooses for Studio 49.
Originally from California, Cat developed an early fascination with interiors, business, and artistic experimentation. She has an instinctive ability to visualize how an object will live within a space long before that space is complete—seeing the relationship between color, proportion, art, furniture, and personality as pieces of one larger composition.
After relocating to Austin in 2000, Cat established roots in a city that remains both home and creative base. Following several years living abroad in London, she returned to Austin in 2021 with an expanded global perspective and an even stronger conviction that great design should never be afraid to have a point of view.
Today, Cat Lall and Studio 49 represent an exuberant approach to art, design, and collecting—one that celebrates individuality over convention, personality over perfection, and color over caution.
Whether Cat is creating an original work, designing a piece of furniture, or discovering an extraordinary vintage object, she is guided by the same instinct:
Choose the piece with presence. Choose the unexpected. Choose the color.
Because a beautiful room can be admired.
But an unforgettable room should make you feel alive.
